Are you surprised to know that college students worry more about their mental health than mass shootings, inflation, finances, and academics? These results were reported by TimelyMD in Business Wire on August 11, 2022.
TimelyMD provides health services to colleges throughout the country. They reported these findings based on a survey of 1,200 college students in July of this year.
Earlier this year, students said “they were more stressed about COVID-19 than ever” but now “their top five stressors are their own mental health (49%), mass shootings (41%), inflation (40%), finances (40%), and academics (38%).”
Students would like “more virtual counseling/mental health support, followed closely by more in-person counseling/mental health support, and additional peer-to-peer support resources.”
I wonder if this high rate of concern about mental health among college students is related to the stressors that arose during the pandemic. This would include lots of virtual education and associated lack of direct contact with fellow students last year.
